How to Talk With Built-in Movie and Asus, It Still Works, Providing Old Tech a Fresh Life

How to Talk With Built-in Movie and Asus

Many Asus notebook computers come with built-in webcams with movie capabilities, including the company’s line of ultra-portable Eee PCs. These cameras come with hardware drivers recognized by most talk software, meaning many common talk applications are ready for movie talk with an Asus machine without configuration. Compatible software includes the Skype voice-over-IP application, and the Windows Live Messenger and Gmail Talk instant messaging utilities.

Skype

Download the installation files from the Skype website (see Resources). Skype is a free program, and movie talks with other Skype computer users is also free. Run the downloaded file to install the program on the Asus computer. Open Skype when finished.

Inject your Skype name and password to sign into your Skype account. If you don’t have an account, click on "Don’t have a Skype name" to set one up. You’ll need to give your Skype name to other Skype users before they can call you.

Select the "Contraptions" menu and click "Options." Click on "Movie Settings" to check your webcam’s functionality, or select the built-in Asus webcam if you have an outward camera connected as well.

Click the "Fresh" button and select "Fresh Contact" to add a contact for movie talk. Click on a contact and click the "Movie Call" button to initiate a movie talk with that contact. Online contacts are represented by a green icon. Press the crimson button to end the movie talk when finished.

Gmail Talk

Download the Voice and Movie Plugin from the Google website (see Resources). The plugin works with the existing Gmail Talk features built in to Google’s email service.

Navigate to the Gmail website (see Resources). Sign-in or click "Create an Account" to sign-up for the service for free.

Click on an online contact in the left framework to open a Google Talk window with that contact. To add a fresh contact, click on "Contacts" in the left framework and click the "Fresh Contact" button. Video-capable contacts will display a green camera icon.

Select the "Deeds" drop-down menu and click "Add voice/movie talk" to initiate a talk. The other party must confirm the operation to begin the talk. Unless you have an outward webcam connected, the talk service will automatically use the built-in Asus camera.

Windows Live Messenger

Navigate to the "Begin" menu and type "Windows Live Messenger" into the "Search" box and press "Come in" to open the software. The program comes with the Windows operating system. If you haven’t used the software before, the system may prompt you to update before using the application.

Inject your Windows Live ID and password. If you don’t have a Windows Live ID, create one from the Windows Live website (see Resources). Click the "Sign In" button.

Click the Menu drop-down arrow and highlight "Deeds." Highlight "Movie" and click on "Commence a Movie Call." Click a contact and click "Okay" to embark the movie talk. Only contacts capable of receiving movie calls will show up in the list. The system will automatically activate and use the Asus webcam.
