WHATSAPP WORRY: Could WhatsApp be about to commence charging users?

If WhatsApp was to embark charging users of its messaging services, would you pay up?

It’s a question we’d all rather avoid but are now being coerced to face.

That’s because a message has began circulating, suggesting the Facebook-owned rigid is about to begin charging users a ninety nine pence subscription fee.

Instead if causing concern for inbound fees, however, the message has sparked worry due to its nature as an online scam.

Targeting users of the globally superior messaging app, the scam text message has been reported by a number of users.

Falsely claiming to have been sent by WhatsApp, the message claims that users’ service subscriptions have expired and that they should click the included link in order to repay the 99p fee.

The message states: “Your subscription has expired. To verify your account and purchase a lifetime subscription for just 0.99 GBP simply tap on this link.”

If you receive this message, however, whatever you do, don’t click that link.

Even however a lifetime WhatsApp subscription sounds like an enticing possibility, WhatsApp swinged all user charges years ago and the app is now downright free for all.

What’s more, coming in your private and banking details is opening yourself up to scammers that will take far more than £0.99 from your account.

Albeit the scam message very first appeared last month, reports of the message have enlargened in latest days.

People who receive the message have been advised to delete it instantaneously.

Worryingly, this is far from the very first time WhatsApp users have been targeted by scammers.

Back in January, another WhatsApp hoax made users believe they were to commence being charged 0.01p per message sent on through the app.

Albeit a lil’ figure in its own right, given the amount of messages most of us send through WhatsApp, this would have been a figure that would quickly add up.

Beyond this, last month WhatsApp users were targeted by a scam that tricked them into installing malicious software on their devices.

The scam tricked fans of the popular service by suggesting a range of fresh customisable colours were available to them.

Encouraging users to share the message with twelve friend to verify their accounts and activate the feature, the message then shoved users to download a Chrome buttplug in that made them vulnerable to nasty adware.
